GCU holds blood donation campaign for cancer patients
LAHORE: The students and faculty members of the Government College University, Lahore have donated almost 258 pints of blood for cancer patients.
The blood donation drive was organised by the GCU Blood Donor Society (GCU-BDS) in collaboration with the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (SKMCH&RC), Lahore.
Prof Dr Hassan Amir Shah, GCU Vice-Chancellor, visited the camp and appreciated the efforts of the BDS members who donate more than 1,500 pints of blood every year for the patients suffering from cancer.
Pakistan Yoga Council Patron Riaz Khokhar, Yoga Instructor Muhammad Ijaz and GCU-BDS Advisor Dr Babar Naseem Aasi were also present.
workshop: A training workshop was held with regard to the Punjab Police Development Management System (PPDMS).
More than 100 building incharges from all Punjab participated in the workshop chaired by IG welfare and Finance Rao Sardar Ali Khan. The building incharges of RPO, DPO, CTD, Special branch, PHP, Investigation and other sections of Punjab Police participated in it. The participants were not only made aware of use of the software of PPDMD but also given training of PC-I so that all expenses of renovation and newly-constructed building of Punjab police might be archived in a professional way. In this way, the funds of the department may be utilised for construction purpose instead of wasting the funds in any miscalculated estimate. In the light of the directions given earlier by the inspector general of police, Punjab, all the development data of Punjab police has been uploaded onto the PPDMS.
With this development, any development project of Punjab police can easily be seen by the officers with a single click of button. It will also help improve transparency and monitoring of the projects besides saving precious time.
Shaukat Khanum: In an effort to recognise the support of corporate organisations during the year 2018, Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Center (SKMCH&RC) is organising the 9th Annual Shaukat Khanum Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Awards on Thursday (today) at a local hotel.
Shaukat Khanum is the most trusted charitable institution for individuals, philanthropists and corporate organisations. Every year, hundreds of corporate organisations give Zakat and donations to SKMCH for the treatment of underprivileged cancer patients. This award is an acknowledgment from SKMCH for their efforts. At the event, heads of more than 100 corporate organisations will be served with the CSR Award for their continued support to the Pakistan’s most trusted charity organisation.
The construction of Pakistan’s third and largest Shaukat Khanum Hospital, Karachi has also started and the hospital is expected to be completed in a period of three years.
spring festival: Albayrak Waste Management Company Wednesday arranged a one-day spring festival event at China Scheme Sports Complex.
A football match between China Scheme Football Club and Cousins-11 was played at the complex. The students from Government College University also joined the festival. A symbolic waste picking activity was arranged in which football players picked the waste and disposed it of in waste bags.
The event aimed to promote recreational activities and games in the streets and local grounds in a clean and healthy way. A plantation drive was also held in which Albayrak Senior Manager Operations Fatih Kerici, Manager Communications Naeema Saeed, GCU Asst Prof Mujtaba Baqar and football players planted saplings.
Later, the participants also took part in wall painting activity under theme of “Clean & Green Pakistan”. Awareness brochures were also distributed among the participants.
Fatih presented trophy and medals to the winning team and also distributed souvenirs among the runner up team members.
