Efforts on to develop South Waziristan: IGFC
WANA: Inspector General Frontier Corps (South) Maj-Gen Azhar Iqbal Abbasi on Thursday said that strenuous efforts were being made to bring South Waziristan back on the track to development.
Speaking at a jirga at the 55 Brigade Headquarters in Kaniguram, he said that peace had been restored due to sacrifices rendered by the tribesmen and security forces. Commander 55 Brigade Brig Wajid Sibghatullah, Ladha Assistant Commissioner Furqan Ashraf, elders including Malik Noor Khan, Malik Iqbal Shabikhel, Malik Irfanuddin Burki and others attended the jirga.
The IGFC said the tribespeople had rendered matchless sacrifices for the national interests and the security forces would not leave them alone in this critical juncture of the history. The official said all available resources would be judiciously utilised for the welfare of the people by providing education, health and other civic amenities. He said the survey of the damaged and destroyed houses and other infrastructures was continuing in the district and the affectees would be given compensation in a few days.
The official said that work on various projects, including the supply of clean drinking water, electricity and construction of roads was in full swing, which will usher in a new era of development and prosperity.
Later, the elders put forth several demands and sought their solution at the earliest.
