PDA launches tree plantation drive

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) on Wednesday launched a tree plantation drive and the establishment of greenbelts on both sides on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor in the provincial capital after completion of the civil work of the project.

An official of the PDA said that the authority had started the tree plantation and about 400,000 saplings would be planted across the city on both sides of 27.4 kilometres long BRT corridor.

Besides, he said, the PDA had also started establishing greenbelts on the sides of the BRT. He said that about 5,70,000 foot grass would be planted for the greenbelts in which 6500 beautiful and precious plants would also be planted.

The official said completion of greenbelts and tree plantation would further add to the beautification of the provincial metropolis.

As per the statement issued by the PDA, the city’s greenbelts and trees have been damaged. As per the direction of the Peshawar High Court in the case related to BRT, it said, the trees were safely removed from the roads sides and greenbelts for safer places and now the PDA is planting the same plants and trees on the roads sides and under the flyovers.

The PDA stated that the drive had started from Chamkani section of the BRT and would be extended up to Hayatabad and then Karkhano Market.

In the tree plantation drive, it said, 3,50,000 normal plants would be planted, while 32,000 plants would be seasonal ones. It said the PDA employees have started work on the tree plantation drive.
