Clean, Green Programme to eliminate pollution: Punjab minister

HAFIZABAD: Punjab Minister Chaudhry Zaheer-ud-Din Wednesday said Clean and Green Programme would prove a milestone in eliminating pollution and provide pleasant atmosphere in the country.

Addressing a meeting of the district administration, the minister said the grren programme would go a long way in preventing different diseases in the country. The minister stressed the need for maximum plantation and to ensure better sanitary conditions in the district. He also called upon the members of civil society to extend their practical cooperation by planting maximum plants to ensure better surroundings.

The minister also planted a sapling in the District Complex and led a walk to create awareness among the masses to make their surroundings neat and clean. The Deputy Commissioner (DC) briefed the minister on plantation and cleanliness drive.

Meanwhile, local citizens have expressed their resentment against the civic authorities for their failure to ensure proper sanitary conditions and better functioning of sewerage system in the city.

They said last night rain had fully exposed the efficiency of the authorities as the rain water accumulated in most of the streets mainly due to malfunctioning of sewerage system. They called upon the authorities concerned to ensure better sanitary conditions and proper functioning of sewerage system in the city.
