Customs foils over Rs60m tax evasion attempt
The Pakistan Customs has recovered smuggled items worth over Rs60 million during a raid at the Karachi Port.
A spokesman for the customs said that acting upon credible information received the Research and Development Section of Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) Appraisement – West intercepted a trans-shipment container at the Karachi International Container Terminal.
The container was imported from the United Arab Emirates, and was declared to contain old and used auto parts. The declaration was in the name of the Al-Jeeran Engineering Lahore and bonded carrier Saif-ur-Rehman Co.
Detailed examination of the container was carried out by the MCC which resulted in recovery of high dutiable and restricted items, including cellphones, tablets, satellite and dish receivers, CCTV cameras, copper refrigerators tubes, ball bearings, circuit breakers, finger print scanners, dialysis machines. The approximate evaded amount of duties and taxes comes to the tune of around Rs60 million. An FIR has been lodged while further legal proceedings are underway.
