ADB appoints Asia Pacific’s vice president
KARACHI: The Asian Development Bank on Tuesday said the bank appointed Ahmed Saeed as vice-president for Operations 2.
Saeed will be responsible for operations in the Southeast Asia, the East Asia, and the Pacific departments.
Saeed is currently the Managing Director and Head of public sector for Middle East, North Africa, and Pakistan at JP Morgan Chase, based in Dubai.
He has experience working with many governments, central banks, finance ministries, and sovereign wealth funds on a broad range of economic and financial issues.
From 2004-8, Ahmed served in senior US government positions. In 2004-05, Ahmed was a White House Fellow and Advisor to the Secretary of the Treasury. From 2005 until 2008, Ahmed served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the US Treasury for the Middle East and Africa.
In this role, he was the senior US government official responsible for American financial policy engagement with the 68 countries in his region of responsibility.
Ahmed was previously a Managing Director at Cerberus Capital Management, a New York-based private investment firm with $25 billion under management, as well as a Managing Director of Investment Banking for Nomura International.
Earlier in his career, he held a number of leadership roles in technology related businesses and in the venture capital industry. He began his career as an international corporate lawyer at White & Case LLP.
Saeed holds a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Chicago Law School, Master of Business Administration in Finance from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business, and a BA (economics and political science) from McGill University. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
