KARAK: Corps Commander Peshawar Lt General Shaheen Mazhar Mehmood visited his native village Dhand Idel Khel on Saturday, met elders and announced cash prizes
and laptops for the talented students of the local
school.
During a meeting at his residence, he was told about the problems of villagers and heard suggestions on improving the educational and healthcare facilities in the area.
Some of the villagers gave him applications for getting their problems resolved.
In response to some of the demands, Lt Gen Shaheen Mazhar Mehmood announced that efforts would be made to get the road from Sabirabad to his village Dhand Idel Khel blacktopped.
He also assured that a small dam would be built for harvesting rainwater to solve the issue of water shortage in the hilly area. He said a health centre would also be established in the village.
Regarding the demand for provision of natural gas to the area, the Corps Commander discussed the issue with Mian Nisar Gul Kakakhel, the local member of the provincial assembly who was present on the occasion. On the suggestion of the lawmaker, the Corps Commander called a meeting in Peshawar on February 28 to discuss the issue.
It may be added that major deposits of gas and oil have been discovered in Karak,
but most villages in the district are still deprived of the facility.
