ANF foils Rs160m drug smuggling bids

The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) foiled several attempts to smuggle drugs and seized narcotics worth approximately Rs160 million in International Market, the ANF Headquarters said.
ANF launched 5 operations at Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Sahiwal and Peshawar, which resulted in recovery of 24kg of heroin and 2.8kg of ‘charas’. ANF also arrested 10 persons involved in drug smuggling and seized 4 vehicles during these operations. Most of the recovered drugs were destined abroad.
According to details, ANF Rawalpindi in an intelligence based operation near Benazir Bhutto International Airport, Islamabad, intercepted 2 cars including Toyota Fielder (No. RJ-568) and Suzuki Swift (No. RI-851). The operation resulted in recovery of 12kg of heroin from the cars. Three drug traffickers namely Muhammad Shafiq, Muhammad Imran, residents of Lahore and Lashkar Khan, resident of Peshawar were also arrested during the operation. The accused Lashkar Khan tried to escape from the scene; however, ANF team apprehended him after a chase. As per initial investigations, heroin was intended to be smuggled abroad.
ANF Rawalpindi Airport team in an information based operation at BB Airport detained a suspected passenger namely Qasim Ali, resident of Narowal. Detailed search of his luggage resulted in recovery of 12kg of heroin.
ANF Rawalpindi Airport team apprehended a person, Muhammad Siddique, resident of Gujranwala, on suspicion of ingested heroin filled capsules. During interrogation, he confessed of having gulped heroin filled capsules. The accused intended to travel for Italy via Abu Dhabi by Etehad Airlines Flight No. EY-232. ANF Lahore Road Check team on pursuance of an information, arrested a motorcyclist near Umair Petroleum, Harapa Toll Plaza, Sahiwal and recovered one kilogram of ‘charas’ from his possession.
As per initial reports, the accused was involved in local drug peddling. ANF Peshawar in an information based operation, intercepted a Toyota GLI Car (No. ASG-885-Sindh) near Pishta Khara Chowk, Peshawar, and recovered 1.8kg of ‘charas’ from the car.
