ISLAMABAD: A new parliamentary mechanism to resolving the people’s complaints at the Parliament level has been put in place at the Senate Secretariat that will start work from today (Monday).
Under the mechanism a petition box has been put on the Senate’s website where people will send their complaints directly to the Parliament which will be taken up with the government for their resolution.Senate Chairman Mian Raza Rabbani, who conceived this idea, will inaugurate the complaint cell at the Senate today (Monday).
“A new online mechanism for direct contact between the people and Parliament has been established under which the people could directly send their complaints online against any of the government departments on the Senate website,” said Mian Raza Rabbani while talking to The News on Sunday.
The Senate chairman said three-tier strategy has been devised for the resolution of the people’s complaint in which issues relating to national importance will be sent directly to the Senate session. He said issues relating to violation of human rights and other important matters would be sent to the concerned standing committees.
The idea for creating complaint box was conceived by Raza Rabbani with an aim to reduce gap between parliamentarians and people.
Raza Rabbani after being elected as chairman Senate resolved to restore transparency in the Parliament. Under the new initiatives, the ministers’ statement will be monitored and they will be asked about their commitments after every two months.
The Senate has also amended its rules according to which instead of one call attention, two call attentions would be taken up daily during the session of the Upper House.Raza Rabbani also taking up the points of orders raised by senators seriously and referring these points of order to concerned ministers.
