The provincial government declared on Wednesday the Mitha Ram Hostel in Karachi as a sub-jail.
The hostel, which is located near the DJ Sindh Government Science College, has been under the use of Rangers for a long time. The paramilitary force reportedly uses the hostel for interrogating suspected terrorists and other high-profile criminals after they are detained for 90 days under Section 11EEEE of the Anti-Terrorism Act.
Chief minister Qaim Ali Shah has reportedly issued the notification for giving the status of a sub-jail to the hostel.
There were media reports about undue swapping and transfer of suspected criminals at major prisons, compelling the Sindh Rangers director general to request to the chief minister to set up a separate high-security prison facility for interrogating suspects.
