Two people, including a labourer, were killed in separate incidents reported in the city on Tuesday.

Gulaab Pelaj, 25, was shot dead in Sector 11G, New Karachi, in the wee hours of Monday. Station House Officer (SHO) Mohammad Adil of NKIA Police Station said that Pelaj was walking in the area when unidentified men opened fire on him and fled.

Acting on information, police attended the scene and moved him to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH), where he expired. The SHO added that investigations showed that the deceased was a labourer and worked in a local factory. The victim hailed from Mirpurkhas, Sindh. He said the murder seemed to have occurred over some enmity, but other aspects would be taken into consideration during the investigation.

Robber killed

District Central police foiled a robbery bid and killed an alleged robber in Taimuria area on Tuesday afternoon.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Irfan Baloch said Madadgar 15 received information from a caller that four armed robbers had barged into a house in Block-N, North Nazimabad. Police mobiles of Taimuria Police Station rushed to the house and raised the alarm. On seeing the police, the robbers opened fire.

Police retaliated, arresting a suspect in an injured condition. They found a 9mm pistol on him. Three other robbers fled, however. The injured robber was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The identity of the killed robber could not be ascertained immediately. A case was reported and investigations got under way.
