A petition seeking disqualification of Imran Khan and another Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf MNA Dr Arif Alvi was filed in the Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday.
Citing the leaked audio recorded conversation regarding the attack on Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV), between Khan and Dr Alvi, petitioner Rana Faizul Hasan submitted news reports regarding the tape had been published and telecasted.
The petitioner maintained the PTI chief and MNA supported the act of the protestors and had breached their oath of office.
He submitted that every citizen had to be loyal with the State but the PTI leaders encouraged the supporters for attacking a state institution, violating Article 5 of the constitution.
The court was prayed to direct secretary law and election commission of Pakistan to act in accordance with the law and disqualify the defendants from their respective constituencies for violation of oath and constitution.
A large number of protestors said to be participating in the sit-ins organised by the PTI and Pakistan Awami Tehreek in August last year had attacked and occupied the PTV station for several hours to oust the Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz’s (PML-N) government on charges of rigging the polls.
