Pakistani scientist wins excellence award in Japan

A Pakistan scientist of Dr Panjwani Centre for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research (PCMD), Karachi University, was conferred with the excellence award for presenting outstanding science research at the 91st annual meeting of the Japan Endocrine Society, Japan.

The spokesman of the International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) said Dr Abdul Hameed was invited by Japan Endocrine Society to deliver a talk and share his research findings at the international forum.

The scientist had also been awarded a travel grant to attend the meeting, the spokesman said, adding that the meeting was attended by researchers of high calibre for furthering scientific exchange, recent findings and major contributions in the field of diabetes and endocrinology worldwide.

Dr Hameed was working in the research group of Dr M Hafizur Rahman at Dr Panjwani Centre for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research, ICCBS, KU. During his PhD research, he discovered new insulin secretory candidate molecules that have advantages over the marketed sulfonylurea drugs.

His research findings have already been published in international peer review journals, and appreciated by European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) in Sweden and Germany.

University of Karachi Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ajmal Khan, ICCBS Patron-in-Chief Prof Atta-ur-Rahman and ICCBS Director Prof Dr M Iqbal Choudhary appreciated his work and congratulated Abdul Hameed on his achievement.
