Overseas Pakistani found dead in mysterious circumstances
Mystery shrouds the death of an overseas Pakistani whose body was found in a private hostel in Defence View Phase-II last Thursday. According to the police, the man apparently died of excessive alcohol consumption.
Police said that the janitorial staff of Bahrain Residency, a hostel in Defence View, informed the administration of a foul smell coming from one of the rooms. The administration informed the police. A team from Baloch Colony police station arrived at the hostel and recovered the body of a man identified as 43-year-old Nixon Jeroudson. The deceased was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a post-mortem.
JPMC Additional Police Surgeon (APS) Dr Sheeraz Ahmed told The News that a team of medico-legal experts examined Jeroudson’s body and collected also samples from his abdomen to ascertain the cause of his death.
According to Ahmed, the report of the physical examination showed that no marks of torture were found on the body, but his face had turned black which suggested that he died a few days ago.
Ahmed added that the stomach samples have been sent to the laboratory for chemical examination and cause of death will be announced once the report is received.
Mysterious circumstances
“The crime scene investigation and evidence recovered raise many questions which need to be answered,” said Mehmoodabad Division Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Kashif Abbasi.
According to the ASP, the investigation so far has revealed that Jeroudson was a resident of Shershah and had moved to the UAE many years ago with his family. Abbasi said that the deceased’s Iqama, work permit and three passports were found from the room. Two old passports showed an extensive travel history from UAE to Pakistan and other parts of the world, including Ireland and Canada, during the past few years. Jeroudson had gotten a new passport made in March 2017 but he hadn’t travelled anywhere on it so far.
Jeroudson came back to Pakistan in November 2015 and began working at an automobiles exporting firm – Car Junction Co. Ltd. Abbasi said when a police team visited the office, they were told that Jeroudson had been terminated in March 2018 due to bad conduct. The firm’s officials told police that he was habitual drinker and also took drugs.
The ASP further said that police also found a cell phone from his room, but there was no SIM card in it. A forensic analysis report of the phone showed that no SIM has been inserted in the phone since March 1.
Furthermore, the hostel’s staff told police that he rented the room a month ago and had not yet paid the rent. The hostel also did not have any record of visitors who may come to see him during his stay. The CCTV installed at the reception is also of no help since its DVR only retains activity of the past three days
Abbasi added that when his body was taken JPMC, his relatives arrived and tried to prevent the autopsy, but police did not cave to their pressure. When they were questioned about when they met him last, they claimed they had only met him a few times since he had been back and that he didn’t like meeting his relatives much.
