PM can’t seek affidavit from Senate chairman: Rabbani
ISLAMABAD: Former Chairman Senate Mian Raza Rabbani on Thursday said seeking of affidavit from Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi is against the law and Constitution.
"The prime minister cannot seek an affidavit from the Senate chairman and his demand is inappropriate and illegal," he said while talking with The News here on Thursday.
He said the prime minister is also wrong when he claimed that the chairman Senate cannot summon him in the Senate. "Under the Constitution and also in parliamentary practices, the prime minister and his cabinet is answerable before the parliament and no government functionary could go against the law and the Constitution," he said.
He said if anyone goes against the Constitution, the parliament has all constitutional powers to take action against him. Rabbani said it was the duty of everyone to respect the Constitution and constitutional institutions and the campaign from the prime minister is regrettable and inappropriate.
