Seminary teacher held for raping minor student
Residents of Bengali Camp, Korangi, handed over a seminary teacher to the police on Wednesday for raping and filming his minor female student inside the seminary, and then blackmailing her family.
According to Korangi police SHO Inayatullah Marwat, the father of one of the victims lodged a complaint against Muhammad Alam Ghauri, a teacher at Muhammadi Madrasa, stating that he had raped his daughter and filmed the assault a few years ago, and was now demanding money from him using that video for blackmail.
The complainant stated that four years ago he had enrolled his then 14-year-old daughter at Muhammadi Madrasa in Korangi No. 3. According to him, sometime during the years she was studying there, her teacher, Muhammad Alam Ghauri, raped her and filmed the assault, but his daughter never told him what had happened to her.
He further said that he married her off a year ago, but a few months ago, Ghauri came to him and showed him the video of the sexual assault. He added that Ghauri threatened to upload the video on the internet if he did not pay him money.
The SHO said that the police registered an FIR against the cleric under Section 376 of the Pakistan Penal Code and began an investigation. He added that later in the day, the father called the accused seminary teacher over for negotiations. When Ghauri arrived, the area’s residents were waiting for him. They called the police and handed him over for arrest and further legal proceedings.
District Korangi SSP Zulfiqar Mehar told The News that an investigation into Ghauri’s activities at the seminary is under way, but so far, no other victims have come forward. SSP Mehar added the police would encourage and facilitate everyone who wishes to report against the arrested seminary teacher, and vowed stern legal action against him as per the law.
