LAKKI MARWAT: Elders of the Marwat tribe reiterated on Tuesday that they would resist the claim of Dera Ismail Khan district on the land of Lakki Marwat district where exploration of oil and gas was being carried out by Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL). They were speaking at a gathering organised by Marwat Qaumi Committee, a right body, in Lakki city. Residents of Surband and other rural localities attended the gathering.
“We know how to safeguard the rights of Marwat people and we will do it at all costs,” said an elder. He said the Marwat tribesmen would not let people from other districts to usurp their rights.
The Marwat elders said that a high level committee constituted by government to resolve boundary dispute between Lakki and DI Khan districts reported in its findings that oil and gas exploration was being carried out in Lakki Marwat district.
“In the light of the report submitted by the said committee, the Marwat people have the genuine rights to avail all perks and privileges,” they maintained. They said that the district was blessed with many natural resources and it would get huge royalty if oil and gas reservoirs were explored.
