Punjab, KP governors visit Torkham border

LANDIKOTAL: Punjab Governor Muhammad Rafique Rajwana along with his family members visited Landikotal and Torkham border on Saturday. Rajwana and his family were also accompanied by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra. The governors’ convey, escorted by paramilitary troops, drove to Landikotal from Peshawar and stopped at hilltop Michini checkpost near the Pak-Afghan border.

The governors and their family members were warmly welcomed at Michini checkpost. They were briefed about the historical and strategic importance of Torkham border. Khyber Agency Political Agent Khalid Mehmood welcomed the two dignitaries in Landikotal. Punjab Governor Rafique Rajwana enjoyed the trip and thanked the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor, Assistant Political Agent of Landikotal Niaz Muhammad and Khyber Rifles officials for their hospitality.

The political administration of Khyber Agency had taken extra-security measures from Karkhano Market in Peshawar to Torkham border. Levies personnel and Khassadars had been deployed along the Peshawar-Torkham Road to avoid any mishap during the visit. Landikotal and Torkham border bazaars were briefly closed when they reached Landikotal and Torkham border.

The governors met the Pakistani security personnel and officials at Torkham gate. Private vehicles and heavy trucks were parked on the roadside for some time. The delegation also visited historical sites of the Mughal-era in Landikotal. The delegation drove to Torkham border where they visited the Zero Point area and were briefed about current security situation at the border.

The delegation was later transported to Landikotal administration office where they were offered local cuisine. A culture programme was also organised for the two governors. The delegation returned to Peshawar at around 4pm.
