LAKKI MARWAT: The district elementary and secondary education department has started implementing a strategy to hold coordination meetings with heads of schools to improve performance indicators including teachers and students attendance.
The provincial government has introduced multiple reforms in education sector with the support of UK Department For International Development through Adam Smith International (ADI) as executing agency.
Under the reforms, the government has developed a sense of competition among all the districts for better performance in education sector, said ADI district delivery executive Saqib Rehman on Sunday.
He said the organisation designed a format for comparison of districts and evaluate their education performance in 20 indicators.
“The coordination meetings with schools’ bosses aiming to improve performance indicators started in mid March and ended on March 22 remained successful”, he added, saying that the schools’ heads were also sensitized about their important role in making coming enrollment drive a success.
Salam said that schools’ heads also learnt about their role in making parent teacher councils fully functional, transparent utilisation of conditional grant and other budgetary allocations and improving performance evaluation and monitoring (independent monitoring unit) indicators.
He said the department would pay special attention to enhance school quality management initiative visits and initiate timely action on teachers’ absenteeism cases through online action management system.
Meanwhile, the police on Sunday claimed to have recovered huge quantity of hashish and illegal weapons from a hotel in Tajazai.
“After receiving information about sale of narcotics, a police party reached the hotel to conduct the raid,” said an official.
He added the hotel owner Sher Aslam tried to escape but was caught.
“The cops overpowered the owner and seized 3500 grams hashish, an AK-47 assault rifle, a pistol, a magazine and 35 bullets during search,” he maintained.
He said that investigation was launched after registration of a case against drug trafficker under the relevant section of law.
