ISLAMABAD: The President of Pakistan has appointed Tariq Mehmood Jehangiri as the new Advocate General for Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) and Ministry of Interior has issued a notification in this regard.
Jehangiri will be the second Advocate General (AG) for ICT after resignation of the first AG Mian Abdur Rauf who resigned earlier this month.
Tariq Jehangiri will also serve as ex-officio Chairman of the Islamabad Bar Council (IBC). As per procedure, Ministry of Interior formulates a proposal for the appointment of AG with names and credentials of different candidates. The proposal is then forwarded to the Law Ministry for scrutiny and then names are forwarded to the Prime Minister who after selection of a person recommends a name to the President of Pakistan. The President then grants his final approval and the Ministry of Interior issues notification.
Tariq Mehmood Jehangiri previously served as a deputy prosecutor general (DPG) National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Deputy Attorney General for Islamabad High Court and also served as President Islamabad High Court Bar Association.
While talking to The News he said that he always tried to uphold law and constitution in different capacities and would also try his full to meet his responsibilities as AG ICT.
