MANSEHRA: Zargul Khan, the political advisor to chief minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-led provincial government would give Tanawal the status of a district in the first week of next month.

“We have been finalising documents to give Tanawal the status of a district before April 4 this year,” Zargul Khan told reporters in Lassan Nawab on Sunday.

Earlier, he administered oath to the newly-elected office-bearers of Lassan Nawab Press Club. Khan, who is also regional president of PTI in Hazara, said that delimitation was not the responsibility of the provincial government.

Meanwhile, a grand jirga rejected the proposed delimitation in Tanawal and threatened to launch agitation against it.

The jirga, which was held here, was largely attended by people and notables from Tanawal. “If there is no change in both National Assembly’s constituencies then why such conspiracies are being hatched to divide centuries-old Tanawal,” former provincial minister Habibur Rehman Tanoli told the jirga.

He said that five of 10 union councils of Tanawal were excluded from it and merged into Oghi, which was unacceptable to them at any cost. “We would never allow government to divide our logically set boundaries to vanish of centuries old identity and land,” Tanoli added.
