Police actions in Jamrud protested
JAMRUD: The Kukikhel tribal elders on Wednesday took out a protest rally against the Peshawar police for conducting raids in Jamrud tehsil of Khyber Agency.
Led by Malik Salahuddin, Malik Waris Khan, Malik Ismail and Malik Manan, the protesters were carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans against the police. They walked through various areas and gathered at the Bab-e-Khyber.
Speaking on the occasion, they said entry of the police into the limits of the tribal regions was illegal and would be resisted. “Police are illegally entering the area and manhandling people in Jamrud tehsil by conducting raids despite the presence of Khassadar and Levies forces,” said one of the protesters, adding that they had repeatedly warned them to stop actions in the tribal areas but to no avail.
The police were conducting raids on the houses and shops, he said, adding, the tribesmen would take action against the police if they again tried to conduct raids in their areas. They asked the corps commander, Peshawar and political agent, Khyber Agency to take note of the issue or else they would raise a ‘lashkar’ against the police.
