Ghulam Khan border crossing to reopen on 7th
MIRANSHAH: The political administration on Saturday announced to reopen the Ghulam Khan border crossing in North Waziristan with Afghanistan for trade from March 7.
The decision was taken in a jirga of the tribal elders and traders with the political administration held here. Assistant Political Officer Taimur Khan was present in the meeting.
Taimur Khan said that the border crossing would remain opened for four days for export and two days a week for import of good.
He said that the traders would be allowed to export their goods to Afghanistan from Monday to Thursday while the local and Afghan traders could import the goods on Friday and Saturday.
The business community and tribal elders welcomed the decision and termed it a step in the right direction to promote the declining trade between the two neighbouring countries.
They hoped the decision would help promote economic activities and create new jobs opportunity I the area.
It is to be mentioned here that the Ghulam Khan border crossing was closed after the launch of military operation against local and foreign militants in North Waziristan on June 15, 2014.
The traders and tribespeople who often cross into Afghanistan using this border crossing were facing hardships. The reopening of the route was their longstanding demand.
