Billion Trees Tsunami scandal: Resolution for probe submitted in KP Assembly
PESHAWAR: A resolution has been submitted in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly to launch a probe into irregularities committed in the Billion Trees Tsunami project.
The resolution submitted by KP MPA and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) renegade Ziaullah Afridi challenges the claim by PTI Chief Imran Khan that 1.18 billion trees were planted during the forestry drive. It has demanded an inquiry by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) into alleged Rs 6 billion financial irregularities committed in the project, and also calls for punishment for those involved in the alleged scandal.
The resolution says PTI Chairman Imran Khan announced the Billion Trees Tsunami project and the KP government launched a four-year programme in this regard. People stood shocked when the official record showed that only 240 million trees were planted in the province instead of 1.18 billion.
