PESHAWAR: A condemned prisoner, Faisal Sheraz, was hanged to death in the Central Prison Peshawar on Tuesday.

Faisal Sheraz had been awarded death sentence on three counts for slaughtering his parents and a minor brother in 2001

According to Assistant Superintendent of prison, Shamroz Khan, the convict, was hanged at 5:30 am. The body was handed over to relatives.

As per the first information report registered at the Yakatoot (now Agha Mir Jani Shah) Police Station on January 2001, the police reached the house of one deceased, Javed, at Karimabad in Kohati Gate, Peshawar, after informed by the local people that they had heard gunshots and screams from inside the house.

The police stated that they found Javed, his wife and a minor boy Noman dead in the house. They were first shot and later slaughtered. The police said the complainant Jamal, brother of the condemned prisoner, was severely injured as the killer tried to slaughter him as well, but he was saved due to police timely action.

As per the police report, the police first arrested Faisal Sheraz on suspicion, but later he confessed to the crime of killing his parents and brother in the court of additional district and sessions judge Peshawar.

The court sentenced the culprit to death on October 15, 2006 but he challenged the verdict in Peshawar High Court. His appeal was dismissed. Later, the Supreme Court, too, turned down his appeal for review of the decision of the lower courts. The convict then appealed to the president for mercy but in vain.
