Punjab, KP officials meet for women empowerment
LAHORE: Collaborative efforts of all provinces are required to strengthen and empower women in Pakistan and the measures would be more effective if taken simultaneously in all provinces.
Punjab Commission on the Status of Women (PCSW) Chairperson Fauzia Viqar said this while speaking to the delegates from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Commission on the Status of Women (KPCSW) during their exposure visit to PCSW headquarters in Lahore. The objective of the meeting was to ensure inter-governmental cooperation for sharing best practices and innovation done in the struggle towards women’s economic and social empowerment. The PCSW chairperson shared the key projects and interventions of PCSW. Major projects include a 24-hour helpline for women (1043), Punjab’s gender management information system, a pilot rehabilitation model designed by PCSW for women’s economic empowerment, and capacity building of Nikah registrars to protect women’s rights in marriage.
KPCSW Chairperson Ms Neelum Khan Toru discussed the initiatives and progress made by the KP Commission. Both chairpersons and members of the two commissions discussed the importance of coordination and collaboration to achieve gender equality in Pakistan. They explored avenues for continued experience-sharing.
