LAHORE: Football World Cup trophy, on the first tour of Pakistan, will be put on display at a local hotel here on January 10.

Despite the ban by FIFA on Pakistan football, the FIFA trophy is touring Pakistan, one of the three countries of South Asia. Maldives and Sri Lanka are the other two countries which are part of the FIFA trophy tour.

World renowned beverages company, Coca-Cola, which is part and parcel of world football, is handling the tour arrangements and for this historic FIFA trophy tour in Pakistan, a gigantic event has been arranged by Coca-Cola Pakistan to experience the first ever homecoming of FIFA Trophy to Pakistan.

Earlier there were feelings that FIFA’s suspension of the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) might hurt disrupt the trophy’s route and Pakistan may no longer be a stop for the World Cup trophy’s world tour.

PFF’s suspension led to rumours that the trophy will be going to India instead of Pakistan. However, FIFA’s spokesperson later confirmed that no changes have been made to the tour. Football fans of the country are now looking forward to setting their sights on the fabled World Cup trophy, and it would be a sweet moment for former national skipper Saddam Hussain and midfielder Saadullah. For them, the trophy serves as little more than a stark reminder that while the World Cup may come to Pakistan, Pakistan are not going to the World Cup any time soon. After Pakistan’s tour, the 2018 FIFA World Cup trophy will be taken to Sri Lanka on January 23 followed by its tour of the Maldives.
