LAHORE : The 7th Robotics Expo of the Information Technology University (ITU) was held here on Saturday in which third semester students showcased their 15 projects.

Addressing the ceremony, US Consul General Elizabeth K. Trudeau said the expo was an excellent display of youth’s potential in innovative technological solutions. She said events like this provide a platform to get the youth out of their comfort zones and showcase their maximum potential.

Information Technology University founding Vice-Chancellor Dr Umar Saif said Robotics Expo had undoubtedly become the flagship event of ITU. The biannual event had been inspiring people all over the country for more than three years now.

Head of Robotics Programme Talha Rehmani said it was really stimulating to work with the energetic students who were exhibiting such skills.

Some of the projects demonstrated by the students were; Rekhta, an Urdu typing and transliteration software that can be used with any browser. Simba, a four-legged robot that can entertain people and share their load. Robosec, a small robot equipped with night-vision that provides security at night. Istarfaa, a platform that can levitate particles using sound waves. Qufl, a digital locking system that ensures fool-proof security. Celox, an automated and secure table saw. Wall-climber, a robot that climbs the walls and cleans glass windows of skyscrapers, and Hugo, a robot that gauges human emotions and attempts to mimic those emotions.

Legend Cricketer Mushtaq Ahmad introduced the audience to a new mobile application ‘Insights’. This application not only records individual player performances during a match, but also keeps track of weather and pitch conditions, fielding positions, bowling strategies employed against each batsman and the shot-selection of the batsmen.
