NOWSHERA: The Awami National Party (ANP) won majority of seats in the by-polls on various vacant seats of councillors in the district on Thursday.

ANP candidate Siyar Khan defeated the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Adnan Wahid to win the youth councillor seat from Dag Besud-I village council. In the by-election on two general seats in Pabbi-I, ANP candidate Noor Nabbi and PTI’s ticketholder Abudullah won the election.

Akhtar Gul of ANP won the by-poll on a general seat in Akbarpura area by defeating his rival and PTI candidate Irshad Ali. Likewise, ANP candidate Shad Muhammad won the general seat from Akora Khattak while an independent candidate Ishtiaq Ahmad won the general seat from Jabbi in Nizampur.

ANP general secretary Mian Iftikhar Hussain said that winning of the by-poll by his party candidate despite the PTI government in the province was a sign that people lost confidence in the party-led Khyber Pakhtun-khwa government and rallying around the nationalist party.
