Digital Urdu ‘Lughat’ to be launched this month
Islamabad: Urdu ‘Lughat’ Board under National History and Literary Heritage Division is ready to launch its first-ever digital Urdu ‘Lughat’ (dictionary) this month. Head of Urdu Dictionary Board Aqueel Abbas Jafri told APP that all the compilation work had been done and uploaded on the Internet after approval, to make it available on different application stores.
A web portal will also be created to facilitate the reader, he added. After the development of software, composition and proof-reading has been done. A team of 70 people had worked on this project and completed it in the stipulated time frame, he said.
He said the largest Urdu dictionary consisted of 22 volumes, now we have composed the same for Internet and mobile App under planning and supervision of Irfan Siddiqui. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and & National Heritage is focusing on promoting and preserving the national language. English is a common medium of communication which has reduced reliance and usage of Urdu, he added.
