MARDAN: The personnel of Surveillance Squad of Intelligence and Investigation, Inland Revenue Mardan, in an action on Wednesday seized several cartons of non-tax paid cigarettes being distributed to the dealers in various areas of the district.
Inland Revenue Officer Jamshed Khan and Inspector Tufail Khan intercepted a vehicle loaded with eight cartons of Red and White and six cartons of Morven brands of cigarettes.
The cigarettes were seized as the commodity was being sold to the dealers in different areas of the district without paying Federal Excise Duty, said a press release.
It said that the cigarettes were illegally sold apparently in connivance with some officials of the company and distributers.
It added that the Inland Revenue Department had intensified action against the illegal sale of cigarettes and other contrabands as the unlawful practice had always caused huge loss to the national exchequer.
The Directorate of Intelligence and Investigation, Inland Revenue Peshawar, has started investigation into the case, the press release added.
