KPT edge Karachi United in Quaid-e-Azam Football

KARACHI: Karachi Port Trust (KPT) defeated Karachi United 1-0 in their Group C outing to qualify for the quarter-finals of the First Naya Nazimabad Quaid-e-Azam Football tournament here at the KMC Stadium on Thursday.
Mohammad Bin Younis was the hero for KPT as the sturdy forward landed a fine goal in the 27th minute. With this the quarter-final phase of the 14-team event was completed.
In the quarter-finals, Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) will face National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) on December 2, Muslim Trading Company will lock horns with Pakistan Steel on December 3, four-time former Premier League winners Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) will meet Bahawalpur’s Ashraf Sugar Mills on December 4, and KPT will meet Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) on December 5.
KPT-KU outing was interesting with both sides inflicting incisive rallies on each other. Mainly rough game was played with the players charging one another frequently. After Mohammad put KPT ahead in the middle of the first half, KU got a couple of solid opportunities but failed to capitalise on them.
Just before the final whistle, KPT were reduced to ten men when Naveed was sent off the pitch for double booking. He was shown the first yellow in the 52nd minute. There will be no match on Friday (today) due to Eid Milad-un-Nabi. The event will resume on Saturday.
