HELD SRINAGAR: A severely injured pellet-riddled boy, 16, was found in the Nawa Kadal area of downtown Srinagar in a pool of blood.
Local reports said teenager Zahid Ahmad from Zonimar area in Srinagar was brought to SMHS Srinagar with severe pellet injuries in his abdomen. He was operated immediately and doctors said hundreds of pellets had pierced right portion of his abdomen. Reports quoting Zahid’s family said forces fired at him in Nawa Kadal and left him unattended there. They targeted him when he was returning from an examination centre.
Doctors who treated Zahid said many of his vital organs, especially his right kidney, had been badly injured as hundreds of pellets had entered his body. His situation is very bad as the pellets have pierced his vital organs, especially the right kidney. “Though we have stabilised him and plugged the big entry wound, we are apprehensive that the injury has affected his other vital organs as well,” a report quoting a doctor said.
Besides Zahid, reports said the hospital had received one more pellet victim, who was hit in one eye, but he was discharged soon as his injury was superficial. Reports said Zahid was hit after the area witnessed clashes after the Friday prayers.
