PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has appointed a senior member of the management cadre Dr Mohammad Ayub Rose as provincial Director General Health Services.
“The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is pleased to transfer Dr Mohammad Ayub Rose (management cadre ?BPS-20), additional director general health services, and post him as Director General Health Services Khyber Pakhtunkhwa against the vacant post with immediate effect,” said a notification issued from the chief secretary’s office.
The government had given him the additional charge of Director General Health Services a few weeks ago after the post fell vacant following the retirement of Dr Shabina Raza.
Dr Ayub Rose has been serving in Health Department for 31 years.
During his service, he has served on a number of positions.
Besides working in the Ministry of Health, Dr Ayub Rose has also served in the UN/UNICEF, department of health, international organisation Global Fund, as director programmes, EDO/DHO and medical superintendent.
He has authored 13 manuals, training guides, papers, articles and assignments.
Dr Ayub is the graduate of the Khyber Medical College (KMC) in Peshawar and has done postgraduate from Quaid-e-Azam University with MSc in public health. He studied in Cadet College Kohat.
He also passed the CSS examination, but didn’t join the civil service.
Dr Ayub Rose had topped the University of Peshawar in Bachelor of Arts examination as a private candidate.
Dr Ayub Rose was stated to be on top among the existing lot of health professionals. The provincial Health Department had sent a 10-member summary to the chief minister in which he was on top in the seniority list.
This is third time the government selected senior-most member of the management cadre as DG Health in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Before him, Dr ?Said Ali Khan and Dr Shabina Raza were appointed on their seniority basis, though Dr Said Ali Khan served only for two months while Dr Shabina Raza worked for a few months.
Earlier, before their appointments, the government had come under criticism when a junior doctor, Pervez Kamal, was appointed as DG Health.
He was in the bottom of seniority list but was made DG Health due to strong connections with Aftab Sherpao. The Qaumi Watan Party was part of the PTI-led coalition government in KP when the appointment was made.
The newly appointed DG Health has set his agenda of procurement of equipment process for all health facilities in the province, ?availability of human resource services, availability of medicine, especially for emergency cover, focus on maternal neonatal and child health care, nutrition and vaccine preventable diseases.
