The Women Action Forum (WAF) on Tuesday issued a statement to mark Pakistan Women’s Day annually celebrated on February 12 (today), since after the 1983 women’s movement.
Over a 100 women activists were brutally beaten up and arrested for protesting against Gen Zia-ul-Haq’s anti-women policies, in Lahore.
The statement observed that the movement provided the stepping stone for future generations of women’s rights activists to continue their struggle against injustices and inequality.
It further maintained that Pakistan Women's Day represents women’s resolve to condemn all atrocities committed in the name of religious extremism, discrimination against minorities and of all hegemonic forces of women's oppression.
WAF called for all men and women to dedicate February 12 to celebrate women's power and achievements.
