Senate passes compulsory teaching of Holy Quran Bill 2017
ISLAMABAD: Compulsory teaching of Holy Quran Bill 2017 was approved unanimously in Senate on Friday.
Minister in charge in place of education minister tabled the bill during upper house session which was approved unanimously. Senator Maulana Attaur Rehman said being a Muslim it is necessary for us to impart Islamic teachings to our children. Apart from Quran teachings there is reward on just seeing Quran. He praised all the senators who participated and played their due roles in approval of this bill from Senate.
On the other hand, Foreign Minister Kh Asif said government is ready to probe into Raymond Davis matter if Senate chairman gives orders. The matter related to questions arising out of the disclosures made in Raymond Davis book is matter of shame for us as a nation, Kh Asif said this while giving reply to calling attention notice from Senator Maulana Hafiz Hamdullah. Every institution should be accountable to parliament. Who has played what role. We are ready to investigate this matter if this incident has to be got investigated. “It will not be constructive if it is done so for the sake of point-scoring. How the national dignity was compromised. No interest of any institution was attached to it. ‘Diyat’ money was paid by the government and no one had paid ‘Diyat’ out of one’s own pocket.”
Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Sh Aftab informed the Senate that National Highway Authority (NHA) was taking various steps to make roads safer. During the question-hour, he said NHA had decided to provide appropriate first aid/medical facilities through establishment of Emergency Response Centres (ERCs).
He said the ERCs would comprise first aid and ambulance services fully equipped with first aid equipment and well- trained paramedical staff. The NHA executive board has approved to establish nine ERCs at various locations.
