Amendment to Constitution cannot benefit Nawaz: Bilawal

ISLAMABAD: Chairman of Pakistan People’s Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said his party will not join hands with the PML-N on the matter of making amendment to the Constitution.

“Our party will pursue the politics of principles and will not side with the PML-N for making amendment to the Constitution.Benefit of amendnment to the Constitution would not go to Nawaz Sharif. We will make Pakistan enlightened and progressive,” he said this while talking to the media here on Monday.

If these people want to make any amendment to the Constitution, it cannot benefit Nawaz Sharif, he said, adding what these people wanted was not possible. The PPP will never side with the PML-N on this matter, he announced.

He said that Pakistan was passing through a difficult time. Political tension is not appropriate in the prevailing situation. What leaders of the Punjab are doing now, they will have to keep in view the situation on the borders instead of giving inappropriate statements, he stressed.

The PPP has its own principles and we will pursue the politics of principles and struggle for peace in the country, he observed.

The government is striving to transgress the limits following the disqualification of Nawaz Sharif and is now bent upon making amendment to the Constitution, he observed. The country cannot afford anarchy, he said, adding we cannot do what the PML-N is doing.

Meanwhile, Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah said on Monday that the PML-N had not allowed to abolish articles 62 and 63 to entrap Asif Ali Zardari in the memogate scandal, therefore, these clauses would not be abolished now. How and why these clauses will be abolished, we will see it in new mandate, he said this while talking to media men in a ceremony held in connection with the Independence Day celebrations here on Monday. The next assembly will decide amendment to articles 62 and 63, he added.

No political party hatched a conspiracy against Mian Sahib, then the protest rally was staged against whom, he questioned. Nawaz Sharif’s rally was against the institutions, he added.

When Gillani was disqualified, then Mian Sahib said he should go home immediately, he said. Nawaz Sharif should tell us what he had said then was right or what he is saying at present is right, he said, adding a man who was elected as the prime minister for three terms had been disqualified by the judiciary. He should now remember the past. Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif had a big hand when the judiciary had disqualified Benazir Bhutto and Asif Ali Zardari. They played a role in getting Benazir and Asif Ali Zardari disqualified, he stated. He should remember that time and should not cry why he had been ousted, he added.

The PML-N revolution is in fact ‘save Nawaz revolution’, he remarked. The provinces are free to enact their own law in the matter of anti corruption following the passage of the 18th Amendment, he held. Therefore, we abolished the NAB law in Sindh but this does not mean we are opposed to the Constitution, he added.
