Rain inundates several roads in Lahore
LAHORE: Scattered rain inundated several city areas here Thursday while the Met office predicted similar weather in next 24 hours.
Met officials said seasonal low lies over north Balochistan while monsoon currents are penetrating upper parts of the country and likely to continue in next few days. A trough of westerly wave lies over north of Afghanistan and its adjoining areas, they added.
They predicted that rain-thunderstorm (with a few heavy falls) is expected at scattered places in Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Hazara divisions, Islamabad and Kashmir. Rain-thunderstorm is expected at isolated places in Sargodha, Lahore, Peshawar, Kohat, DG Khan, Mirpurkhas divisions, Fata and Gilgit-Baltistan. Hot and humid weather is expected elsewhere in the country.
On Thursday, rain-thunderstorm occurred at scattered places in Sargodha, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Sukkur, Larkana, Hazara, Kohat divisions, Kashmir, while at isolated places in Malakand, Zhob, DG Khan, Mirpurkhas divisions and Islamabad. Weather remained hot and humid in other parts of the country.
In Lahore, rain started at noon and inundated several main roads and localities, including The Mall, Mozang, Anarkali, Ichhra, Samanabad, Bagh Gul Begum, Temple Road, Lawrence Road, China Chowk, Shadman, Jail Road, Johar Town and adjacent localities. Traffic jams were also seen in these areas and rainwater remained accumulated in several localities even after four to five hours of the rain.
Rainfall was recorded in several cities, including Noorpurthal (68mm), Kamra (23mm), Gujrat (18mm), Sargodha (9mm), Joharabad (13mm), Chakwal (12mm), Mianwali (07mm), Mangla and Jhelum (05mm), Murree (03mm), Rawalpindi (Chaklala 02mm, Shamsabad 01mm),
Kot Addu and Islamabad (01mm), Muzaffarabad (45mm), Garhi Dupatta (07mm), Rawalakot (06mm), Kotli (03mm), Malam Jabba (30mm), Kakul (08mm), Cherat (07mm), Pattan (03mm), Kohat and Dir (02mm), Balakot (01mm), Mohen-jo-Daro (14mm), Jacobabad and Rohri (12mm), Larkana (10mm), Chhor (09mm), Padidan (01mm) and Zhob (04mm).
Thursday’s maximum temperature was recorded at Nokkundi and Sukkur where mercury reached 44°C while in Lahore, it was 33°C, minimum was 28.5°C and humidity in the morning was 62 percent.
