KARACHI: Pakistani squash players ended their campaign at low positions in World Juniors Individual Championship in New Zealand on Monday.

The four players who participated in this event secured 18th, 33rd, 36th, and 41st positions among 76 main draw entries on the last day of the championship. Abbas Zeb achieved 18th position as he was beaten by Ronald Palomino of Colombia 11-3, 5-11, 7-11, 6-11 in the final of matches for 17 to 24 positions.

Abdul Malik grabbed 33rd position when he defeated Juan Barreyro of Argentina 12-10, 6-11, 11-7, 11-7 in the final of matches for 33 to 64 positions. Zeeshan Zeb got 36th position as he lost to Miguel Gonzalo Pujol of Argentina 6-11, 12-10, 4-11, 11-9, 7-11 in the match for 35th position.

Mansoor Zaman Jr grabbed 41st position when he defeated Gabe Yam of New Zealand 11-4, 10-12, 9-11, 11-4, 11-8 in the match for 41 to 48 positions.

Pakistan Squash Federation’s (PSF) development officer Sikandar said their aim was to give maximum exposure to junior players. “Our strategy is to give maximum exposure to our junior players through more and more participation in international events,” said Sikandar.

Chairman Balochistan Squash Association (BSA) Sher Ali Kakar while talking to ‘The News’ said these defeats should open the eyes of the PSF but they had become shameless. “The PSF should spend money on the development of the game in the country instead of wasting it on futile exhibition events,” said Kakar.
