The Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) has launched a website for identification of unclaimed bodies and verification of cell phones.
Sindh Governor Mohammad Zubair inaugurated the website on Friday, the CPLC spokesman said. He said the website would share information about unclaimed bodies while citizens would also be able to verify IMEI numbers before purchasing second-hand mobile phones.
Citizens can also check the status of their lost or snatched mobile phones, he added. He urged buyers of used cell phones to log in to mobilephone.cplc.org.pk for the verification of a second-hand mobile phone.
Talking about the CPLC’s Shanakht project, which was launched in collaboration with the Edhi Foundation and the Chhipa Welfare Association, he said the project was started for identification of unknown bodies and now the CPLC had taken a step further by launching its website for the purpose.
Unclaimed bodies are identified through a biometric system with an access to database of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), he said, adding that now the information about bodies would also be available on shanakht.cplc.org.pk.
The cooperation being extended by NADRA in this regard is exemplary, he added. Under the Shanakht project, as many as 1,223 bodies have been identified with the help of NADRA and, subsequently, the bodies were handed over to heirs, he said, adding that the deceased and their relatives belonged to different parts of the country.
He said the CPLC database held record of more than one million IMEI numbers of stolen and snatched mobile phones and after verification, all these IMEI numbers had either been blocked with the help of relevant authorities or put under surveillance for recovery.
More than 44,000 recovered mobile phones had been returned to the owners after completion of due verification by the CPLC, he added. The spokesman said citizens could also contact CPLC officials by dialing their helpline number 1102 for restoration of lost or snatched mobile phones. Citizens can also lodge their complaints on the helpline number at any time, he added.
“Since its inception, the CPLC has been successfully assisting victims of multiple crimes, such as kidnapping, extortion, terrorism, fraud, harassment, robbery, rape, domestic violence and mobile phone snatching,” he said, adding that the CPLC had also been successful in tracing whereabouts of missing and kidnapped persons. He said citizens had been lauding the services rendered by the CPLC and appreciated its different projects.
