An eight-year-old girl kidnapped from outside her house in Future Colony on Thursday evening was found dumped in Surjani Town after being raped, confirmed police officials on Friday.

SHO Ahmed Asim of the Surjani Town police station told The News that they were informed of a girl crying for help by the area’s residents. The SHO added that the police found the girl and shifted her to a hospital for treatment.

SP Orangi Town Abid Ali Baloch said the medico-legal officer’s (MLO) report confirmed that she was subjected to rape. Responding to a question, the SP said that the girl told the police that she was a resident of Landhi’s Future Colony.

SHO Asim further stated that the girl’s family was located, who informed them that she had been missing since Thursday evening.

The minor’s parents told the police that when they reached a police station to lodge a report, they were informed of their daughter being found from Surjani Town.

ASH denies treatment

Citing absence of a female medico-legal officer, the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital’s (ASH) officials concerned requested for the girl to be shifted to some other hospital, added the SHO.

“I requested the head, Dr Khalid, of ASH’s medico-legal department to call a female examiner, but he said that the lady MLO had not come to office today (Friday),” Asim said. “I requested him to call any other lady doctor to start the girl’s treatment on which a doctor named Naureen came but refused to treat her.”

“Upon refusal of ASH doctors, the minor was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC),” the SHO added. She is currently being treated at the National Institute of Child Health.

Survivor’s condition

The NICH doctors informed journalists that the girl underwent a minor surgery and is recuperating. Responding to a question, the doctors said the minor was subjected to rape but an official statement would be issued upon completion of the final medical report.

The girl was paid a visit by the Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Advisor for Social Welfare Shamim Mumtaz. The advisor directed NICH’s administration to provide all medical facilities to the girl.

The CM’s advisor assured the girl’s parents that the provincial government would take every step possible to ensure the arrest of the culprits.
