Man arrested for bid to blackmail ex-wife through social media
The Federal Investigation Agency’s Cyber Crime Circle arrested a man on Wednesday for allegedly blackmailing his former wife by uploading objectionable pictures on social media websites.
The spokesman for the FIA Sindh said the arrest followed an investigation which was initiated after a complainant said that a heinous crime was being committed against the modesty of the woman on social media websites.
The complaint was referred to the Cyber Crime Circle for an inquiry during which the allegations were found to be true.
On Wednesday, FIA personnel carried out a raid on a house in Rafay-e-Aam Society and arrested Arshad Hadi. The officials also seized electronic items which were used in the crime.
The initial interrogation showed that the man had been sending vulgar messages containing pictures of his ex-wife through Facebook and WhatsApp. The incriminating material was also recovered from his Facebook page and laptop.
An FIR has been lodged against the suspect and investigations are underway.
In September last year, the FIA's Cyber Crime Circle arrested a man who was allegedly uploading pictures of a woman on social networking websites. A case was registered against the suspect, Asim, under the Pakistan Electronic Crime Act, 2016. The FIA, which acted upon a complaint by the victim's father, had conducted a sting operation and managed to lure Asim to the Millennium Mall in Gulistan-e-Jauhar where he was taken into custody.
