CTD arrests ‘TTP militant’, Rangers round up 10 suspects
An alleged activist of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) was arrested by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), while 10 suspects were rounded up by the Sindh Rangers in separate raids on Saturday.
CTD officials said Abdul Ahad, who allegedly belongs to the Swat chapter of the proscribed organisation since 2008, was arrested after a brief encounter in the Old Sabzi Mandi area near PIB Colony.
The accused, who was wanted by the Buner police, was shifted to the CTD headquarter for a probe and a pistol was found him.
During the preliminary investigation, Ahad said he was involved in terrorism activities, including an attack on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa education minister Sardar Hussain Babik in 2011. He confessed to killing a man on suspicion of being informant to the Frontier Constabulary, and also exploding a government college in Buner, KPK.
CTD officials said the man, along with other militants, had fled to Afghanistan after the security forces stated the Swat Operation. Later on, Ahad came to Karachi with his associates and they were planning to sabotage the Census process with the support of two banned outfits – the Jamatul Ahrar and the Lashkar-e-Jhangvi.
