Moazzam, Waheed lead in DHA-Chevron Open
KARACHI: DHA’s Moazzam Siddique and KGC’s Waheed Baloch on Friday shared the lead as the Chevron-DHA Karachi Cup Open All Pakistan Golf Championship teed off here at the Defence Authority Country and Golf Club.
Both Moazzam and Waheed fired identical scores of 68 (-4) in the opening round of the three-day championship whyich carries a prize purse of Rs1.8 million. One shot off the pace were the trio of M Khalid, Aadil Jehangir and Imran Ali Khan who returned with impressive cards of three-under 69.
On what was a hot day, most of the participating professionals managed to give their best with five golfers – hashmat Khan, M Saqlain, Jafal Hussain, M Ashfaq and Amjad Yousuf taking a joint third place on the leader-board with scores of 70. Islamabad’s Hamza Amin was one shot behind at 71 with Rehmatullah, M Tariq, Ahmed Saeed and M Amir of KGC.
The second round of the professionals’ event will be held on Saturday (today).
Meanwhile, the results of various other contests of the championship which is sponsored by Chevron Lubricants Pakistan Limited were finalised on Thursday and Friday.
Owais Intisar won the amateurs event with a gross score of 74. In the ladies event, Humera Khalid won by a huge margin after carding 83. Lt Col Zahid Iqbal, the DACGC captain, won the seniors event with a score of 81. In the veterans’ category, it was Lt Col Shahid Mehboob who reigned supreme. Ibrahim Sohail and Adil Amin won the juniors and masters title respectively.
