Sindh Police Inspector General AD Khowaja inaugurated the first Police Reporting Centre (PRC) in District Central's Gulberg police station on Friday.

The IGP was accompanied by city police chief Mushtaq Ahmed Maher, the DIG West and others officers of District Central.

Speaking on the occasion, IGP Khowaja said the PRC would help in minimising the communication gap between the public and police. “It will help end traditional police culture and the public would get positive results.”

The IGP assured that steps would be taken to widen this process and PRCs would be established in others police stations of the city shortly.

Discussing the main features of the PRC, he said the centre would operate on the basis of one-window-operation where citizens could register FIR, get police verification and character certificates, get issues solved via reconciliation. He said the entry domestic workers would also be made on PRCs.

The Sindh IGP said that state-of-the-art PRCs and trained police officers would help the law-abiding citizens to get their issues and problems resolved on a priority basis in these PRCs in a respectable way.

“It is my wish to make reforms in policing. I believe we can fight effectively against crimes by bringing police and public on one platform, and it is only possible when every citizen assume helping police as his national duty.

“We can achieve better results by ensuring friendly relationships between public and police, “ he said, adding that the department was working hard to ensure a public-friendly environment in every police station.

“The Sindh government has lauded the services of the police department. The provincial government is taking every possible step to make public interest as part of its policy and provision of timely fund for PRCs is an example of this initiative.”

The Sindh IG said his future plans were to shape current police system as per the public desires, overcome traffic issues, make the driving licenses process easier, and modernise the 15 Madadgar as per desires of common man.

Stressing the need for community policing, he said the Sindh government was extending its cooperation for police reforms but there was a dire need to involve masses in this process. “It would only be happened by promotion of community policing.”

Speaking on the occasion, the DIG West said the entire police force was united under the leadership of Sindh IG AD Khawaja. He said the neutral policies of the Sindh IG helped in boosting morale of police department. “By making appointments on merit and eligibility, the Sindh IG has proved that helping public is the top priority of the provincial police department.”
