International Women’s Day today

Islamabad: International Women's Day being celebrated today (March 8) across the globe including Pakistan to recongnise the women's achievements throughout history.

A large number of women from different walks of life as well as leading educators, inventors, politicians, traders, entrepreneurs, and television personalities, are usually invited to speak at various events on the day.

Such events may include seminars, conferences, luncheons, dinners or breakfasts. The messages given at these events often focus on various themes such as innovation, the portrayal of women in the media, or the importance of education and career opportunities.

Many students in schools and other educational settings participate in events, debates or presentations to highlight the importance of women in society, their influence, and issues that affect them.

Many workplaces make a special mention about International Women's Day through internal newsletters or notices, or by handing out promotional material focusing on the day. Events will be take place in Pakistan including a mega event is being organised by National Press Club in collaboration with British High Commission and United Nations Information Centre.

The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) and International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) are organising a conference on International Women's Day with friends from across the country to celebrate the contribution and struggle of women human rights defenders (HRDs) in Pakistan on March 8. Women Action Forum would hold a memorial session to pay tribute to renowned women activist Nigar Ahmed who passed away few days back.
