US consul general calls on KP CM

PESHAWAR: US Consul General Raymond McGrath called on Chief Minister Pervez Khattak here on Wednesday. They discussed matters of mutual interests. Additional Chief Secretary Azam Khan was also present on the occasion.

 

Explosives recovered in Bajaur

KHAR: The Levies personnel on Wednesday foiled a terror bid and recovered 12 explosive devices in Salarzai tehsil of Bajaur Agency, official sources said. They said that the action was carried out on information that the militants had planted explosives to carry out an act of terror in Raghgan area in Salarzai tehsil. They said the Levies personnel reached the spot and recovered 12 bombs planted in the area and defused it. Meanwhile, the political administration has beefed up security across the agency after the recovery of the explosive devices. Strict checking was being carried out at the entry and exit points to Bajaur Agency.

 

Two transgender  Pakistanis beaten to death abroad

Two transgender Pakistanis were reportedly thrashed to death after being stuffed into sacks with sticks by police in a Middle Eastern country, reports foreign media. The two deceased, hailing from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, were detained for dressing like women in public.

The police also raided a guest house and arrested 35 people, besides seizing women’s clothing and jewellery. Amna, 35, and Meeno, 26, were reportedly beaten to death under the police surveillance in prison.

According to the police’s media spokesperson, most detainees came from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and other cities of Pakistan. It was also reported that 11 detainees had been released after paying a heavy fine equivalent to Rs419,182.

 

Two die in accidents

LAHORE:  Two persons, including a head constable, died in a road accident here on Wednesday.  A head constable identified as Allah Wasaya, who was posted at CIA Model Town, was passing through Sua Hasil Kahna on his bike when a speeding tractor trolley hit his bike, resulting into his instant death. In another incident, a man, who was later identified as Sher Khan, was killed by a speeding van in the limits of Kot Lakhpat police station.

Meanwhile, Sundar police registered a case against three doctors and a nurse on charges of performing illegal kidney transplant at a private hospital in Bahria Town.Police also arrested three persons from the spot who were later identified as Javed Iqbal, Fazal Karim and M Zahoor. Javed Iqbal told the police that Dr Saqib, Dr Khan, Dr Malik, and a nurse Fozia performed illegal kidney transplantation here. Two Yemen nationals Khalil and Abdul Rehman were also admitted in the hospital whose defective kidneys had been replaced with fresh. 

  

Civil Defence Day observed

LAHORE: International Civil Defence Day was observed with traditional festivity at Town Hall here Wednesday. A large number of scouts and volunteers were present on the occasion, which was presided over by Civil Defence Officer Qadri Alam Sher. He hailed the services of scouts and volunteers during various past campaigns such as polio eradication campaign, security during Ashura and Ramazan, anti-dengue drive and etc. He urged youths of Lahore to get themselves registered as volunteers with Civil Defence department so that their strength could be used during natural calamities and other big incidents like fire and building collapse in future. He said the department would provide complete training to the volunteers. Lahore deputy commissioner and mayor also spoke on the occasion.

 

Nine arrested over corruption charges

LAHORE: Anti Corruption Establishment (ACE) Punjab Wednesday conducted raids in different cities of the province and arrested nine people including inspectors over corruption and other charges. According to a spokesman of the ACE, the raiding parties arrested Ganda Singh Wala SHO Imran Saeed, supervisor Sher Muhammad of Agriculture Department Sargodha, computer operator of Land Record of Multan Muhammad Ali, Food Inspector of Dera Ghazi Khan Fareed Babar, Sub-Inspector Zulfiqar Ali, clerk Shahzad Shoukat, Patwari Muhammad Yousaf, Rafi Ullah and wanted Patwari Altaf Hussain. All the accused have been held for corruption and corrupt practices. The spokesman stated that ACE officials have taken custody of the accused from courts to probe further. 

 

Visiting heads of ECO states praise picturesque of capital

Islamabad: The visiting heads of states and the minister of the ECO member countries highly appreciated the scenic and picturesque beauty of federal capital and said that the city could be compared with any capital of developed countries of the World. The impression to this effect was conveyed to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif during their bilateral meetings on the occasion of the ECO’s summit. The guests from the ECO countries were highly moved to see the soundings of the capital, said Sheikh Anser Aziz, mayor of Islamabad. While talking with the mayor of Islamabad the President of Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan commended the improvement of the city in the recent years. He told Mr Aziz that he also mentioned the same, when he met the Prime Minister.

Hazara receives heavy rain

MANSEHRA: The upper parts of Hazara division received heavy rain on Wednesday. The rain started at 12 noon in Mansehra, Torghar, Kohistan, Balakot and Oghi and continued intermittently throughout the day. The rainwater flooded the Karakoram Highway in Dub area and the Abbottabad Road. The Kaghan-Naran, section of Mansehra-Naran-Jalkhad road, which was blocked due to heavy land-sliding trigged by heavy rains last month couldn't be opened to traffic inconveniencing for the local people.

 

Two dacoits killed in ‘encounter’

TOBA TEK SINGH: Two alleged dacoits were killed during an ‘encounter’ with the Gojra City police on Wednesday. According to details, a police party led by Gojra City police SHO Rana Abdul Ghaffar was patrolling near Chak 99/JB when they saw that four dacoits were looting people on the road. When the police rushed to the spot, the dacoits opened fire at the police, which was retaliated. As a result, two alleged dacoits were killed on the spot while two others managed to escape. Later, the killed dacoits were identified as Fayyaz Ahmad of Pattoki and Abdul Jabbar of Chak 258/RB, Faisalabad. The police spokesman said that both killed dacoits had murdered a shopkeeper on resistance a few days ago.
