Conspiracy against legal system on social media: CJ
Says people involved in yellow journalism must review their behaviour; coup imposed on judiciary through PCO
MIRPURKHAS: Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali has said that people involved in yellow journalism should review their behaviour. He further added that a conspiracy against the legal system was rampant on the social media. Jamali said that a coup was imposed on the judiciary through the PCO, adding we should try that this does not happen again. “We believe in complete freedom of the judiciary,” said Jamali.
In a speech during a farewell dinner organised by the District Bar Association, Mirpurkhas, the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, said that according to the Constitution, the judiciary was the third main pillar of our state. “Unfortunately, a coup was imposed on the judiciary in the past through the PCO,” he lamented. “This seriously affected the performance of the judiciary and we should be careful to not let this happen in future.”
Jamali said that in the present times, there were futile arguments and discussions being aired by the media and the courts were being targeted without any reason, which was a reason of concern for all. He said we believe in the freedom of the press but there were some people who were conspiring for their own good.
Jamali claimed that the number of delayed cases incourts were the reason of the state institutions’ incompetence. “The present system of courts is not fulfilling the expectations of litigants,” he said. “The bar and bench system can be worked on further to make them more effective.” Jamali said the profession of lawyers was not for minting money, rather it was a noble, human-friendly profession.
On this occasion, the Supreme Court’s Justice Amir Hani Muslim and Justice Mushir Alam, the Sindh High Court’s Chief Justice Justice Syed Sajjad Ali Shah, Justice Ahmed Ali M Shaikh, Justice Iqbal Kalhoro, Justice Salahuddin Panhwar, Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi, Justice Syed Farooq Shah, Justice Ashraf Jehan, Justice Faisal Kamal, Justice Khadim Husssain Tunio and Justice Ghulam Mustafa Memon were also present.
