The metropolis was abuzz with the traditional enthusiasm, on Sunday, as the Sindh Culture Day was observed across the province, to mark the 5,000-year old history and culture of Sindh.
Various political, social and non-governmental organisations held programmes to celebrate the day in which people of all languages expressed their sentiments and love with the Sindhi culture.
The streets were a sight of mass celebration as people danced to the tunes of famous folk songs, whereas rallies were also organised in various cities.
People gathered at a ceremony held outside the local press club in which the traditional Sindhi Topis and Ajraks were presented to journalists, and stalls selling ajraks and caps were also set up.
To add to the fun and frolic, the ceremony’s attendees later enjoyed the performance of famous Sindhi singer Shazia Khushk.
Governor’s felicitations
Governor Sindh Justice (retd)Saeed-uz-Zaman Siddiqui felicitated the province’s people on Sindh Culture Day.
In a statement issued, on Sunday, the governor said culture was the backbone and identity of a nation.
He said the day was an occasion to foster unity, cohesion and tolerance.
He said Sindh had a great cultural heritage and that the Topi and Ajrak were the identity of the people of the province. The province was also known as the land of Sufis.
