Channel issued notice for anti-judiciary remarks

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) on Sunday issued show cause notice to Neo News TV for telecasting a social media news item maligning the superior judiciary on November 18.
The Pemra notice said that the comments given in the programme by Ahmed Qureshi were tantamount to an effort to malign the superior judiciary. The airing the said news item the channel had violated the Articles 19 and 204 Pemra Act 2007, Pemra rules 2009 and the code of conduct of the electronic media implemented on the Supreme Court directives.
The management of Neo TV had been given 7 days to respond to the notice. The Pemra has the right to ban the programme or impose Rs1 million fine on the said channel or even suspend its licence.
